Pet Oral Care

Most dogs and cats will encounter dental issues at some point in their lives, certain breeds can even be predisposed to experiencing these problems at a young age.

The most common problem we see is a build-up of too much tartar that often leads to sore and infected gums, this can cause the teeth to decay and become loose. Our pets can be very good at hiding dental pain, that is why it’s so important to have your pet’s mouth examined regularly. A few signs that your pet may be suffering from dental pain are bad breath, brown or yellow buildup on teeth (particularly the molar teeth at the back of the mouth), reluctance to eat (particularly harder foods), red ulcerated or bleeding gums, drooling, and having difficulty chewing. Often dental disease can lead to other illnesses so it’s vitally important to tackle any dental issues when they arise.

Dental Cleaning

If your pet does have a plague and tartar build up that is causing them pain, they will need to undergo a dental cleaning. During this process we can ultrasonically remove all the hardened tartar from the tooth and under the gum where a lot of the bacteria lives. We then evaluate every tooth to make sure it is healthy, if it’s not then it will likely need to be removed. We then polish all the remaining teeth to make them nice and smooth and sparkling.

Ways to reduce plaque and tartar build up include tooth brushing, feeding dental care food, reducing table scraps, tooth cleaning gels and water additives.
