Neutering

It reduces the potential for ovarian/uterine/testicular/prostate and other cancers proven to be prevalent in males and females who have not been neutered. It also prevents infectious diseases associated with the reproductive organs such as pyometra which can be fatal and financially impactful on the owners. It is a key preventative in avoiding overpopulation which leads to unwanted puppies and kittens who are capable of transmitting disease to both household animals and humans.

In cats the typical neutering age is from 4 months onwards for both males and females.

In dogs, we tend to go by breed and how much growth and maturing your pet needs before they are a suitable candidate for the surgery. We offer a developmental check at 6 months of age to allow us to examine your pet and how they are growing and help advise when they can be neutered. Typically small breeds dogs can be neutered from 6/7 months of age, medium breed dogs at 10/12 months and large breed dogs at a14/16 months.

With female dogs we advise waiting 3 months after her last heat before surgery can be undertaken.
